What It Is:
A two-part 24-hour experiential training to prepare after school educators, youth workers, and community members to develop a caring learning center environment and to reach and teach children and youth through an active learning approach that promotes human development, resiliency, and social-emotional competence.
Participants will learn to use the community building process of Tribes as the foundation for transforming the after-school learning center environment to one in which group facilitation and Tribes strategies are effective in reaching and teaching children and youth. Using multiple intelligences, brain compatible learning and cooperative methods, the community learning center climate and staff awareness will begin to reflect the message of life-long learning, personal development, and social responsibility as the keys to success in the 21st Century.
How It Works:
Participants experience learning strategies and evaluate how to apply to age/grade/subject specific after-school situations. Also included are a copy of the 432 page book, Reaching All by Creating Tribes Learning Communities, by Jeanne Gibbs, (or Discovering Gifts in Middle School), a Certificate of Completion, and the materials to enable you to implement Tribes in your after-school community learning center.
Follow-up coaching and support are available so that your staff can intensify the use of the Tribes process throughout the year and at every level of the after-school program.

What It Costs:
CenterSource Systems has developed a cost effective capacity building model so that you can bring Tribes TLC to your after-school or youth development program. To insure highest quality training and implementation, your professional development will be provided by our experienced certified training staff who will come to your school or program site.
Pricing for the After School and Youth Development Program training includes Two 12-hour sessions of professional development, books for each participant, training materials, and trainer compensation.
Part A: (2 Days)
You will receive 12 hours of proven experiential professional development, our popular book titled Reaching All by Creating Tribes Learning Communities by Jeanne Gibbs, and training materials to enable you to implement Tribes in your classroom and/or school community.
- Module 1 – Finding Our Way to the Future
Discover the meaning and impact of a new pattern of interaction over the traditional approach for working with after school students
Learn how the Tribes TLC® process provides a foundation for students’ development and academic learning
Recognize how changes in the world require new skills and competencies, and a need to focus on children’s social and emotional development and resiliency
Experience how the sequential stages and agreements of the Tribes process develop a sense of belonging and community for after school students
Learn and experience how the Tribes process creates a motivating learning environment
- Module 2 – Learning About Learning
Learn how to teach collaborative skills and establish positive agreements for working together
Experience how the Tribes TLC® process creates a positive learning environment and a student-centered classroom
Understand how cooperation promotes student development and academic achievement
Learn how to teach the Tribes agreements to various grade levels
- Module 3 – Creating the Learning Community
Learn how the Tribes TLC® process supports brain compatible learning and reaching students of multiple intelligences
Become members of on-going small groups (tribes)
Begin to develop inclusion in tribes
Learn how to strengthen tribes for working well together
- Module 4 – Building Tribes… Beyond Inclusion
Understand how to teach students the use of “I-Messages” to work through conflict
Learn how to define three types of reflection questions
Learn the impact of reflection questions upon students’ development, behavior and learning/academic achievement
Learn to facilitate the stage of influence to develop self-worth and respect for diversity
Experience strategies for individual and group decision-making, and collaborative problem solving
Cost: $4000 for up to 30 participants*
Part B: (2 Days)
To complete your training experience in the Tribes process, you will receive an additional 12 hours of professional development focusing on the following objectives;
- Module 5 – Reflecting on where we are
Review the connection between After School Programs and the Tribes process
Reflect upon their professional learning and progress in using the process of Tribes TLC
- Module 6 – Reaching All
Learn how to teach students how to identify and resolve group conflicts
Generate ways to assure that the essential elements of cooperative learning are included in Tribes TLC academic learning experiences
Define ways to create equal learning opportunities for multicultural populations, girls and boys and students of multiple intelligences
- Module 7 – Designing Learning Experiences
Learn and experience the elements of a Tribes Learning Experience
Identify strategies that can be used to integrate academic content
Design a grade level learning experience that integrates curriculum with the process of Tribes
- Module 8 – Bringing It All Together
Discuss and practice using Tribes strategies within academic subjects and themes
Review and apply the essential components of the Tribes TLC process to the objectives of your After School Program and your students
Summarize and celebrate the community’s learning experience

*Additional Cost for Trainer Travel, Accommodations, and Related Training Expenses – typically priced at $1200 to $1500 per 2-day training within the continental United States.
