Tribes Teaching Philosophy

This is Jane Jensen’s blog assignment from the online course, “A Study of the Influence of the Tribes TLC Process on Social and Emotional Learning”

It’s brilliant!

——————-

I decided to create a short acrostic poem as a reflection of my experience with Tribes. I believe that social and emotional learning is an important aspect of how we should teach and because of that I thought a reflection would be an appropriate way of demonstrating my changed philosophy.

Truthfully, I think that TLC was always a part of my teaching philosophy. But,

Reading about how Tribes Learning Communities can benefit the entire learning community (teachers, students, volunteers, etc.) has enhanced my own philosophy.

It has intrigued my interest in a way I never knew possible.

By researching the strategies and philosophy behind Tribes I now understand why it can work in a classroom, a school and a community.

Eventually, I hope that I can create not only a safe and inviting classroom, but also a learning community where students can come and grow.

Success should not be measured by how much we can remember, but rather focus on how we develop cognitively, socially, emotionally, physically and spiritually.
