Attn: Tribes Trainers!

Don’t miss the big event of 2010! Yes, once again it’s time for the Summer Institute for Tribes Trainers. Our Texas Trainers have been persistent in their desire to show off the Lone Star State to our international Tribes Trainer community. This July they get their chance by hosting the 2010 Summer Institute in Houston! The event will take place at the South Shore Harbour Resort and Conference Center located between Houston and Galveston, right on the shores of Clear Lake. For venue information, visit the South Shore Harbour’s website.  For local area attractions, visit here.

The theme of this year’s Institute is “Embracing Innovation…”

July 12-15, 2010

In the words of Roland S. Barth “I believe that schools are lighthouses. I believe that every school harbors within its walls the capacity for grownups and students to become inventers and reformers, to engage in authentic change… The school that becomes a self-renewing enterprise will — shape its own future.

The Purpose of the Institute this year is to acknowledge and celebrate our ability as international educators and leaders to continue to build the capacity of everyone in our school “lighthouses” to activate meaningful innovation… thereby accelerating academic, social and emotional development for the diversity of all within our respective learning systems.

Participants will…

  • Hear and celebrate how numerous schools and districts in Texas and elsewhere embraced the innovative principles and practices of the process of Tribes TLC, and have successfully sustained implementation to the benefit of their students, staff, and families
  • Enjoy an interactive keynote, “Embracing Innovation,” with Jeanne Gibbs, author and founder of Tribes Learning Communities
  • Experience an exciting and effective way to embrace and plan innovation
  • Share and learn about global learning experiences with trainers from many regions of the world, including initiatives that are being advanced in various countries
  • Celebrate and learn about the experiences of trainers who have facilitated the new high school level training plan, Engaging All by Creating High School Learning Communities, and hear about their implementation progress
  • Explore and share ways to engage, support and collaborate with parents, after school and youth development programs, and the wider community
  • Meet with other school leaders to learn how they are using the process of Tribes to improve student learning, enhance professional development and embrace innovation to achieve systems change
  • Have the opportunity to participate in a post-Institute mini-TOT to learn how to facilitate the new secondary level training plan, Engaging All by Creating High School Learning Communities
  • Facilitate or participate in break out sessions, presentations and book talks on a variety of meaningful and timely topics
  • Enjoy the sites of the area that can include an afternoon at Kemah Boardwalk, a visit to Johnson Space Center, or an evening cruise on Clear Lake.
