Purpose

The purpose of the 2-day High School TOT is to prepare Certified Tribes Trainers to be able to effectively facilitate the new 24-hour high school training plan, Engaging All by Creating High School Learning Communities.

The full 24-hour Engaging All course provides the research-based principles and strategies that are essential to prepare today’s students for an entirely different era – The Era of Learning. Participants will explore the most promising strategy for sustained, substantive school improvement – that of building the capacity of school personnel – “the insiders” – to function as a collegial learning community. Educators will understand why and how this research-based developmental process can transform the culture, structures and pedagogy of the whole high school system.

Objectives

The High School TOT will help Certified Tribes TLC® Trainers to:

  • Experience and learn the new framework, concepts and paradigm shifts contained in this advanced level training plan
  • Be confident of their ability to effectively conduct the 24-hour Engaging All by Creating High School Learning Communities course
  • Recognize why reform of the traditional high school system is critical
  • Recognize global trends that must be considered to make high school education meaningful, relevant and challenging for 21st century learners
  • Consider the developmental characteristics of high school students and ways to tap the characteristics to engage and motivate them for learning
  • Consider the importance of personalizing today’s high schools and plan how to do so
  • Understand the research-based principles and practices that are implemented in the Responsive Education process of Tribes Learning Communities
